Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF) paid out its largest-ever bonus pool of $25 million to top-achieving independent distributors during an annual celebratory event that culminated in an awards ceremony Friday evening at the Boca Raton Resort and Club.

The Mark Hughes Bonus Awards recognize the most successful Herbalife independent distributors who have demonstrated superior leadership and motivation of their global organizations. Over 170 independent distributors from around the world received bonus awards. Bonus awards ranged from $10,000 to the top four bonuses each exceeding $1 million. The number one Herbalife Independent Distributor in the world received a bonus award of $1.6 million.

Amway installs ordering centre:

Amway India Enterprises, a company that sells consumer goods in direct selling mode, opened an ordering centre in Vijayawada on Thursday.

It helps the company's distributors in Kurnool, Khammam, West Godavari, Krishna, Nellore, Guntur, Prakasam and parts of Chittoor district deliver goods to consumers within 24 hours after receipt of an order.

Consumers can place orders on the website. The company plans to release at least 15 new products every year.

(NYSE:HLF) today announced the opening of business in Costa Rica, its second Central American country and now the 62nd country where Herbalife products will be sold through the company's network of independent distributors. Sergio Medina, vice president, Mexico and Central America, will oversee the day-to-day operations in Costa Rica. The company's head office will open for business in San Jose on April 25, 2006.

Herbalife was established in California in 1980 and began doing business in the Central American region in 2000 in Panama. Today, it is present in thirteen countries in the Americas region.

Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF) today announced an early move to compliance with NYSE standards of board independence with the appointment of two new independent directors following the resignations of directors James Fordyce and Ken Diekroeger. Fordyce has represented Whitney & Co. and Diekroeger has represented Golden Gate Capital on the board since the company was taken private in July 2002.

'Full compliance with NYSE independence standards is not required until December 2006, however, early compliance is consistent with the best principles of good corporate governance,' said Herbalife Chairman of the Board Peter Castleman, president of Whitney & Co., LLC.

Direct sellers typically market their products person-to-person and, unlike traditional retailers, don't depend on fixed locations. Most of these companies are in the small- and mid-cap sector; analysts see a number of growth opportunities for these sellers.

US-based direct seller Amway will probably see a lower sales revenue in China this year as it is still restructuring its sales network to comply with new regulations on direct selling.

Senior company officials said yesterday the firm still had to make some slight changes to keep in line with the rules which took effect in December last year.

Avon In China

Avon Products Inc., the world's largest door-to-door cosmetics distributor, said this month that Avon Products (China) Co. Ltd. received the first direct-selling business license in that country after an eight-year ban.

Avon China now can roll out its previously tested single-level direct-selling model nationwide. The permit was issued in February.

China banned direct sales in 1998, saying it was hard for consumers to tell the difference between legitimate sales networks and fraudulent pyramid schemes. However, the government issued rules to regulate direct sales in December, clearing the way for Avon and other companies to apply for licenses.

Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF) announces a series of sponsorships in France, including main sponsorship of the Gerardmer triathlon, associate sponsor of the Ironman France, and official partner of the two-day Strasbourg Europe Races.

Herbalife is already nutrition partner of the French Ski School at Val d'Isere for the four-month 2005/6 season.

In total, the sponsorship deals will enable the company to take the brand to an audience of more than 50,000 athletes and sportsmen and several million spectators at the events and via media and broadcast coverage.

"The Securities and Exchange Commission [SEC] issued a blunt warning last week to website owners seeking increased traffic from autosurfers, and to network marketing entrepreneurs looking for a leg up on the latest moneymaking multilevel marketing scheme—autosurfing is high risk. The SEC put the paid autosurf website industry on notice that the government is taking a very close look at them. In issuing its warning, the SEC noted that there are dozens of autosurf websites on the Internet and that while most of them are legitimate, some of them—those, the SEC said, that promise their members astronomical profits—are likely pyramid schemes and, as such, are scams that the government intends to shut down."

"Avon Products, the world's largest door-to-door cosmetics distributor, was awarded China's first license for direct selling after the government lifted a seven-year ban on the practice.

The company's permit was issued in February and seven Avon employees were granted licenses to train salespeople in direct selling, the Ministry of Commerce said Monday.

Avon has a head start on its competitors, like Mary Kay Cosmetics and Nu Skin Enterprises, which are waiting to start door-to-door sales in China."
